SCENOGRAPHY ART BRUSSELS
Gigant developed, constructed and calculated several unique constructions designed and commissioned by B-ILD, an architectural firm based in Brussels as well. Art Brussels is the most important contemporary art fair in Belgium.
The scenography of Art Brussels 2015 activates the unused potential of the Brussels Expo halls. Hidden levels of the site are deployed through architectural interventions. Gigant provided three staircases overlooking the boots show a previously undisclosed view of the fairground. By leading the visitors up to a higher level they can discover the grandeur and true scale of the site. Architectural magnitude aside, the interventions allow to be leveraged as platforms for fair events and activities to occur.
The instalment of temporary structures raises the question of sustainability and the optimisation of re-using materials and building components. Gigant provided in addition to their scaffold structures the OSB carpentry. Scaffolding structures and recycled materials are at the base of the design because of its durability and economic benefits. The design process is enriched by research into new ways to apply underexploited materials. The interventions accept the limited time of its construction. Recycled materials will occur throughout the fair in a subtle yet surprising way.
